Hey — I’m John Reed. 28 years in tech and still hooked. I started out racking servers as a SysAdmin and grew into cloud architecture and site reliability: years of it spent keeping distributed databases and 99.99% systems honest (Galera, sharded MariaDB, the kind of replication that has to heal itself). Hence the name of this place: eventually consistent is both what those systems promise and how I’ve come to think good engineering (and most opinions) settle.
Along the way: time inside AWS as a TAM, cloud-architecture and FinOps work that clawed back seven figures in spend, and more compliance-driven Terraform than I can count. These days I’m all-in on AI as a force multiplier for the way I build — on real infrastructure, not demos.
Right now I’m heads-down on the fun stuff: blockchain, zero-knowledge cryptography, compliance-driven Terraform, and the agentic tooling that keeps it all moving, some of which I’ve open-sourced (see Cairn). This blog is where I write up what I build, why I built it that way, and what broke along the road.
